    Returning after an injury

Everyone ends up with an injury at one time or another in their skating career.  Some injuries are minuscule, but sometimes we injure ourselves pretty severely on or off the ice.  We get medical attention and most of the time lengthy physical therapy.  What happens next?  Best thing to do is get an official medical clearance from your physician clearing you to get back to your sport with full range or with limitations.  That will help your coach plan your lessons accordingly with a lower chance of you re-injuring yourself.  Your coach will also be able to get you back…

    10 Commandments for Parents

The Ten Commandments for Figure Skating AND Hockey Parents I. Thou shalt not impose your ambitions on thy child. Remember that figure skating or hockey is your child’s activity. Improvement and progress occur at different rates for each individual. Don’t judge your child’s progress based on the performance of other athletes, and don’t push them based on what you think they should be doing. II. Thou shalt be supportive no matter what. There is only one question to ask your child – “Did you have fun?” If competitions, shows, and practices are not fun, your child should not be forced…
